Science-Based Performance Training For Women

Behind The Mission

Root of Performance was not created simply as a training platform. It developed out of my own pursuit of discipline, resilience, and a deeper understanding of human performance — physically, mentally, and spiritually.
I am first and foremost a follower of Jesus Christ, and my faith shapes how I understand purpose, discipline, and stewardship of the body. I believe our physical abilities, our challenges, and even our limitations can all be used as opportunities to grow in strength, character, and dependence on God.
Athletics
My path into performance began through athletics and a desire to challenge myself physically. I played collegiate soccer at the University of Georgia, where training, competition, and teamwork reinforced the importance of discipline, consistency, and perseverance.
I continued competing at a high level, playing for the Atlanta Silverbacks, where our team won a Women’s Soccer League (WSL) National Championship. Experiences like these deepened my respect for structured training, teamwork, and the discipline required to perform at a high level.
Through sport and physical training, I became increasingly interested in how individuals develop strength, endurance, and resilience over time.
Military Service
My pursuit of challenge eventually led me into military service.
I became the first woman to complete Marine Corps Special Operations Command Assessment and Selection (MARSOC/SOCOM) and one of the first women to graduate as an 0311 Rifleman from the Marine Corps School of Infantry prior to woman being allowed to serve in combat roles. These experiences pushed me both physically and mentally and strengthened my resilience, determination, and discipline.
I later served as an AV-8B Harrier avionics mechanic and as an Engineer Officer in the U.S. Army National Guard, roles that required the ability to remain focused and perform under pressure.
The military reinforced a principle that continues to guide my work today: preparation matters, and disciplined training builds both physical and mental strength.
Academic Study
My curiosity about performance eventually led me into the academic study of human physiology and training.
I earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later completed a PhD in Exercise Science from Liberty University, studying the physiological and behavioral foundations that influence training, adaptation, and long-term performance.
Through research and experience, I came to believe that the most effective training programs must be grounded in both scientific understanding and real-world application.
Faith, Family, and Perspective
Beyond athletics, military service, and academic study, life experiences have also shaped my understanding of performance.
Loss, grief, recovery, and personal challenges have reinforced the belief that resilience is developed not only through physical effort but through the way we respond to adversity.
My faith guides how I approach both life and training. I believe discipline, perseverance, humility, and stewardship are all part of honoring the responsibilities we have been given.
Today I am also a wife and mother of four, and motherhood has given me a new perspective on strength, patience, and endurance. Experiencing pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and the demands of raising children has enriched my understanding of how the body adapts — especially for women.
These experiences continue to shape how I approach training and performance.
Root of Performance
Root of Performance grew out of the intersection of these experiences.
It is a platform that brings together science-based training, personal discipline, and reflections on resilience, faith, and purposeful living.
The programs are designed for a wide range of individuals, including:
• athletes pursuing higher levels of performance
• military women preparing for demanding training environments
• individuals seeking discipline and resilience through physical training
• women and mothers navigating the physical transitions of life
Through training programs, challenges, and writing, Root of Performance explores what it means to pursue strength, resilience, discipline, and meaningful performance in life.
