Lifestyle: Building Healthy Habits
Habits are usually created by repetitive behavior that makes us feel good. They typically form without much thought, making habits automatic and difficult to change. Unhealthy habits can create frustrating setbacks and keep you from reaching goals. These habits hold you prisoner and negatively impact your quality of life today and in the future. Do YOU want to be the reason you didn’t reach your potential? So, how do we fix it?
Awareness:
● Know your habits
● Understand triggers for unhealthy behavior that you want to change
● Disrupt unwanted patterns to create new ones Plan:
● Start small. Set reasonable goals and identify the steps to reach them
● Be Accountable. Tell family or friends what you are doing and even ask them to join
● Anticipate any obstacles that could arise and how you will handle the situation
Reinforce:
● Keep track of your progress. Keep a record with a journal, app, or spreadsheet
● Persevere even when you don’t ‘feel’ encouraged or strong
● Be Consistent Follow Through:
● Visualize your future and imagine your long-term success
● Focus on your Why and your quality of life
● Trust the process
● Be Patient
Challenge
Identify one habit you would like to change this upcoming week and begin changing it to a healthy habit.
Start small, for example:
1. Waking up 5min earlier increasing each day
2. No Soda 3. Go to bed earlier 4. No {insert cheat food here}
Pick any habit no matter how small and dedicate yourself for 21 days.
